About Me

Background

I am a third generation Korean, born and raised in Japan. I have had an interest in learning about different culture from young age. After living in Australia, US, Korea, and UK,  I moved to the Netherlands with my partner and daughter. Moving to a completely new country can be very challenging, exciting, yet very exhausting.  Of course, we all face difficulties whether we live overseas or not. However, having limited resource, facing cultural difference and language barrier, building personal and professional relationships from scratch, worrying about the family back home etc can be overwhelming at times.

Combining my personal and clinical experiences,  I wish to support and collaborate any struggles or challenges emerge in your life.

Educational Background and Experience

I received my Bachelor of Psychology from California State University, Northridge, MS in Cross-Cultural Psychology from Brunel University in UK and MS in Clinical Psychology from Waseda University in Japan. After obtaining my license in clinical psychology, I have worked over a decade in various clinical settings such as mental health hospitals, universities and private offices.

Over the years, I have specialized in multicultural counseling and have worked with individuals, couples and students, while many of them have international backgrounds. I have worked with clients struggling with depression, anxiety disorder, neurodiversity, job stress issues, traumatic experiences and relationship difficulty and such.

I received training in CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy) and EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy). I also completed EFT advanced trainings for couples.

In sessions, I am often moved by how clients take risk to overcome their struggles and painful experiences. It is definitely not a easy thing to face with yourself, be vulnerable in front of your partner or even talking to therapist. As much as I value the importance of receiving trainings as a therapist  to guide clients with evidence based knowledge, one of the most important elements is to be able to build trust between therapist and client.

I welcome individuals with diverse backgrounds, various types of couples and relationships including international and interracial, and LGBTQIA+ couples and relationships.

I am happy to meet in my office in the Hague or online. I offer session in English and Japanese.
